“Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.” – Psalm 107:10-11
Ignoring God is the worst thing that could ever happen to a human being or the “human race” as a whole. Anyone who dares to ignore God does so to his own detriment. It is like a tenant who forgets that the house he lives in is not his/her own….
We ignore God whenever we ignore his word, laws and statutes, so that we live as if we were not accountable to him, as if he had no expectation(s) of us. Imagine a soccer team made of the world’s best players but without a coach. Or, the same team having a coach but ignoring him completely…. Ignoring God is even worse!
It is important to understand that ignoring God does not diminish accountability to him, it does not mean that his laws do no longer apply to us. Imagine someone ignoring the law of gravity and thus jumping off a high-rise building in Hong Kong -ignoring the law of gravity exempts no one from it.
Everything God created has laws to function by, not only human beings. Listen to the Lord speaking to Job (chapter 38), “where were you…when I shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb. When I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place. When I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’? .
Now imagine what could happen to life on earth if the sea was to ignore God…. I submit that evil in any form is born out of ignoring God. I am talking about corruption, slavery, dictatorship, meurder, stealing, back stubbing, sexual promiscuity, moral bankruptcy…
Psalm 107:10-11 comes to mind…
Indeed, ignoring God is the worse thing that could ever happen to a human being or the human race as a whole.
