The title of this message is another way of saying that all human beings (each and everyone of us) are accountable to God. Here it is important to understand that rejecting or ignoring God does not take away or reduce accountability to Him.

Romans 12:11-12 states, It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.”

Clearly, giving an account of ourselves to God will not be optional but expected of each one of us regardless of the rank or titles we bear on earth. Imagine living your entire life on earth not acknowledging (ignoring) God only to die and face Him (acknowledge Him)!…

Let’s consider Genesis 2:15, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Here we understand that God created man (human being) in order to serve Him by working and taking care of what belongs to Him (God).

Accordingly, Psalm 24:1 states, “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” In the same vein Psalm 47:7-9 states, “For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted.”

Yes, the nobles of the nations (including MPs) and the kings of the earth are servants, like any other human being on earth they are accountable to God too. Hence, inevitably (ultimately) they will give an account of themselves to God.

Interestingly, Matthew 25 consists of 3 parables Jesus told which highlight the need to live on earth with a sense of accountability to God, that is, as a servant ready to meet his/her master. We invite you to take time to prayerfully read the whole chapter. For now, however, let’s focus on verse 21: “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness.”

Please note, the servant was not idle. He did what his master expected of him with what he was entrusted so that he is described as “good and faithful servant” -the servant took good care of what was entrusted him. To borrow from Genesis 2:15 we would say that the servant worked and took care of the master’s talents….Here it is important to understand that the master’s happiness that the servant is invited to share is in actual fact celebration/satisfaction for the good work he had done faithfully, that is, as one who cares knowing he was accountable to the master -the servant procured his master happiness.

This message comes as a timely reminder to the whole world that we are all servants of God by virtue of being created by Him to work and take care of what belongs to Him, even the earth and everything in it…. (Psalm 24:1). Someone rightly remarked that we are only custodians even though most of us seem to have conveniently forgotten. However, the fact is, we will each give an account of ourselves to God, hence we need to live daily accordingly.

May God help us all!
